***Note: Final 95 Rituals show canceled, Sat July 11

Live performance—especially when it takes place outside and in public spaces—does not come without surprises or challenges. In response to a moment of spontaneous nudity at Friday’s performance, the planned final performance on Saturday, July 11 was canceled. Though the moment was beautiful, it was in violation of directly communicated rules from our hosts at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. The Park Rangers extended every courtesy and did their best to work with us within the rules that they must uphold. Many who heard the news recalled Anna’s storied use of nudity in performance since the 1960’s and yesterday KQED published an article by Kat Snow highlighting this unintended connection in a new work honoring her legacy and artistic process.

Dancers’ Group and inkBoat will be creating a video as well as a book that documents and pays tribute to the process of creating and performing 95 Rituals. The video and book will provide another way to participate in this project.

One lesson: do not expect the outcome. Adapt to what is.

  1. I am ready to create a source group for a Boulder, Co site specific event for Anna, now! I also would love to participate in an event with Anna & Shinichi some Sunday in May, June or July. I will come to Marin one or two times during these months. Thank you, Shinichi, for this gracious gift to Anna. Melinda

  2. Love the idea, Shinichi. For now our Planetary Dance Board is concentrating on the 35th Anniversary event on Mt. Tam on June 7th, to which everyone is invited. We will also be celebrating Anna’s 95th birthday. Join us, everyone
